THE WOMAN in his arms was driving him insane.

Carter wasn’t sure what he’d expected when he set out to seduce Tori, but it certainly wasn’t the hot, responsive woman in his arms. Never once had he seen Tori lose control.

Never once, that is, until now.

She’d lost control, all right. And she’d lost it with him. The knowledge both thrilled and humbled him.

He’d watched her face after she found her release and was absolutely certain he’d never before seen anything as beautiful in his life. When he’d stood up, he’d gathered her in his arms, pressing against her and holding her close until her heartbeat calmed and her breathing returned to normal. He stroked her hair, wet and silky from the shower, as she snuggled against him, her chin on his shoulder.

“Wow,” she whispered.

He kissed the top of her head. “You could say that.”

“I did say that.”

He laughed, surprised once again by her playfulness. He didn’t know this Tori, not really, but he was damn sure looking forward to making her acquaintance.

With one arm still tight around her shoulders, he reached over and pulled the shower curtain aside, glancing at the small clock on the counter next to the sink. “So what do you think?” he asked, a tease in his voice. “Are you sure you want more? Maybe a little break is in order? Some dessert? A midnight snack.”

Her eyes widened, and she poked him in the chest with the tip of her finger. “A break? What are you, a wimp?”

“Nope. Just trying to be chivalrous and offer you a bite to eat.”

She licked her lips. “More like you’re trying to be devious and get me to quit before you do.”

“I take the Fifth,” he said, stealing her earlier excuse.

“Uh-huh. Well, I’m not hungry.” She licked her lips. “Not for anything from Phyllis’s kitchen, anyway.”

“Oh, really?”

She cocked an eyebrow. “Unless you’re weak from hunger.” She traced her finger down the edge of his jaw, her smooth skin scraping against his evening beard. “If that’s the case, this was the easiest victory I’ve ever claimed.”

“Believe me, sweetheart, you haven’t won yet.”

“No? Then take me into that bedroom and prove it.” She grinned. “There’s a box of condoms in my overnight bag. Maybe the bet should be whether or not we can use them all up.”

“Sounds like a bet to me,” he said. Leaning over, he caught her under the legs and scooped her up, managing to get them into the bedroom without stumbling and killing them both.

“I’m impressed,” she said. “Guess it wasn’t a fluke when you aced the physical training section at the academy.”

Her voice was casual, but he knew his success still irked her. Wanting to keep the moment light, he laid her on the bed and straddled her. “I had no choice but to beat you,” he said as she writhed beneath him. “If I was behind you, I’d be staring at your ass all day and wouldn’t accomplish anything.” He waggled his eyebrows. “It’s one fine rear end you’ve got there.
